About This Game Rogue Islands is an action-FPS set in a whimsical fantasy world with procedural levels and permadeath.You control a nimble, light-footed Gnome Wizard named Motwort. I managed to beat the first major boss on the 4-5th island and then permadied shortly afterwards. The combat is very fluid although having levitate (jump) also use your mana can create some tense moments when you're low on mana. But it's a nice mechanic once you get used to it and can keep you on the edge of your seat. Monsters do increase in difficulty fairly quickly so if you're not keeping an eye out for shards to level up your spells then you'll quickly start to struggle in combat. The ghosts at night aren't something to be messed around with, you can't damage you but they can do massive damage to you and they're very difficult to shake off, it made the night cycle very tense when I was on the opposite side of the island.I am looking forward to future updates and think other character classes/builds or a sandbox mode would be a nice addon to an already really fun game!Definitely recommended and even more so, that the proceeds go to a good cause!. If you're looking for a simple to learn but insanely complex voxel game then Rouge Island just might be the game for you. The islands are randomly generated each time you play, so no two playthroughs will be the same. The enemies are brutal and don't have stormtrooper aim. And best of all when you die, it's game over... unless you're playing nightmare mode, then you get one chance to make it right before it's the Great Beyond for you. Graphically it's so smooth to play and the islands are actually pleasing to the eye when you explore them... Give it a shot as you just can't loose at $10 for the game :-). grab it on sale, the game can be a lot of fun although it has some issues and I can't really fully recommend it at full price. The environments are mostly very beautiful but the optimization for this game is not great (running it on a asus RoG with windows 10, nvidia GEFORCEGTX 960M, 16gb ram and intel i7-6700HQ 2.6GHz processor), for it to run well without slowing down or stuttering I have play with all the graphics in the lowest setting and it will still heat up my pc a lot more than any other game I own. (it is very pretty looking, though, despite the lowest graphics settings)playing this game is a lot of fun and it's very challenging, you have to be very wary of your surroundings and get used to managing your mana which regenerates quickly but is used for attacking, jumping and hovering. you also have to take into account the day cycle and your hunger, as well as use different types of food for different effects. My biggest issue with the game, aside from optimization, is that completing and island will normally take you a while, at least 15 minutes and at most an hour, I'd say, and you can only save after completing an island. The game is a roguelike but also plays a lot like a sandbox game where you want to explore and extract resources as much as possible to upgrade your spells and max mana, but doing so will take a long time and if you ever need to exit the game you will lose your progress unless you complete whatever quests you have left on an island.recommendations for dev:-add a saving feature accessible within the ship so one can save (maybe when sleeping) without having to finish the island.-maybe add a lower graphics setting to make the game more accessible, using the lowest settings still looked pretty good and heated up my laptop quite a bit.-add more varieties of monsters, being almost 4 hours into the game in the same run, and having beaten the first 6 or so islands, I have seen very few enemies. Even if they don't act too different you could try spicing things up with alternate sprites for the basic skeleton mobs or other enemies.- maaaybe make it so that during a same run you can't get two of the same charms since you can't use a second one anyways..... This game is just beautiful, i have played for a little bit, and i'm already intrigue about finding out more. The colors, the textures, the character interaction, the animation effects, sound effects, i just love it! I can't wait to see more and more about the game.Regards, Alberto.. I approve this game.. Come check it out! http://rogueislands.com/?page_id=2. v.77 Environmental Wand Reactions: In the prior build, the wands were sort of floating in front of the camera a bit too far and they would clip into the environment as soon as you got close to anything.It all felt a bit floaty and disjointed.In v.77 we reworked the wands. Their default position is now closer to the camera so you feel much more connected to them. We also implemented a dynamic sensor that will push the wands closer to the camera when you are walking up against a wall. This really helps you feel grounded in the world, and you'll never see the wands clipping into the environment.Most FPS games render the weapons on a separate layer, but this has all sorts of side effects. It's hard to match the elements correctly and they tend to look a bit like they are 'floating' above the rest of the scene (because they are). Our wands are fully integrated into the scene. So they render correctly; taking shadows and casting light on the surroundings. Having the character actually pull their wand closer to them when up against a wall, and seeing the gem light up the wall really helps you feel grounded in the world.New!
